The two-day 5th China New Media Industry Convergence Development Conference, organized by the Xinhua News Agency and Chengdu municipal government, concluded in Chengdu, Sichuan province, on Wednesday.
Drawing more than 400 representatives from government departments, the media, enterprises and institutions of higher learning, the conference consisted of keynote speeches, discussions and summit dialogues.
In his speech, Liu Siyang, vice-president of the Xinhua News Agency, talked about the agency's explorations at a time marking deep convergence development of traditional and new media.
Now and in the future, problems arising from the development of new media have to be investigated by academia and the media, he said.
Zhang Baixin, secretary of the secretariat of the All-China Journalists Association, said the media had to make full use of new technology to spread good news stories and do a good job in telling Chinese stories.
On Tuesday, Media Brain, an artificial intelligence media platform developed by a joint venture of the Xinhua News Agency and e-commerce giant Alibaba, was unveiled. The platform can collect news and help journalists transcribe their interview recordings to mitigate work pressure.
Also on Tuesday, the China New Media Industry Convergence Development Report (2016-17), published by Xinhua, was unveiled.
