Indian politicians learn of CPC congress

China Daily | Updated: 2018-01-08 09:45

A Chinese delegation has introduced the achievements of the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China to political communities in India.

During the four-day visit that ended on Saturday, the delegation, headed by Meng Xiangfeng, deputy director of the General Office of the CPC Central Committee, met with leaders of the Indian ruling Bhartiya Janta Party, the opposition Congress party and other left-wing parties.

The delegation briefed the Indian politicians and people from various communities in Delhi and Mumbai on the spirit of the 19th CPC Congress.

The Times of India newspaper said it was the third high-profile visit from China following those by Foreign Minister Wang Yi and State Councilor Yang Jiechi.

The Indian political parties spoke highly of the achievements and significance of the CPC congress and said they were ready to join hands with China to advance mutually beneficial cooperation and promote healthy and steady development of bilateral ties, so as to contribute to peace, stability, development and prosperity in the region and the world.

In 2015, Chinese President Xi Jinping and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi agreed to stimulate the exchange program of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee and India's External Affairs Ministry to enhance contact between Indian states and Chinese provinces during Modi's visit to China.

The visit of the Chinese delegation began on Wednesday and is happening under the aegis of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee and the Indian ministry's exchange program. The delegation has now left India for a 6-day visit to Thailand and the Philippines.

Earlier in December, another CPC delegation made a four-day visit to Turkey. That delegation introduced Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era and highlighted the keynote speech Xi delivered at the opening ceremony of a dialogue between the CPC and other political parties from across the world to the Turkish parties, politicians and representatives from all sectors of society.

Turkish political parties responded that Ankara was ready to further extend exchanges and interaction with the CPC and to deepen ties between the two countries and cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative.
