A ceremony to mark the start of filming of a TV drama about the fight against drug crime was held in the headquarters of Guangdong Provincial Department of Public Security on Thursday.
The drama, titled The Actions to Break Ice, focuses on how police officers fight and investigate drug crime and is based on real cases in Guangdong province, which has been the country’s main battleground against drug crime for decades.
Last year alone, police across Guangdong seized more than 16.4 metric tons of drugs.
Sun Jie, deputy director of the Publicity Bureau with the Ministry of Public Security, said the drama celebrates the heroic actions of the anti-drug officers and demonstrates the country’s determination to fight drug crime.
Guo Shaobo, an inspector from the Guangdong Provincial Department of Public Security, said the drama reflects the lives of the anti-drug officers in his province.
“I hope the drama will raise awareness among residents and encourage them to keep away from drugs,” he said.
Liu Zhangmu, director of the drama, said the creators held many meetings with police officers to ensure authenticity before the shooting officially kicked off.
