Should mobile phones be allowed on planes?

Editor's note: Airliners can now make their own rules for passengers’ use of electronic devices and apply for approval from the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC), according to a statement issued by the CAAC on Tuesday. Is it sensible to allow use of electronic devices on aircraft? Forum readers share their opinions.

I would rather keep my phone turned off. Flying is not a joyful experience, but it is a time when you can have a bit of peace and quiet, a bit of time to doze, read or watch TV or a film.
