SANSHA - A public library opened Wednesday in Sansha, China's southernmost island province of Hainan.

With three reading rooms, the library has a collection of more than 20,000 books, including bestsellers and books about the city, sea, and military, according to the city's publicity office.

Readers can borrow books using their ID cards, without paying a deposit.

The city of Sansha, on Yongxing Island, one of the Xisha Islands, was founded in July 2012. The city administers the Xisha, Zhongsha, and Nansha island groups along with their surrounding waters.

The local government has been investing in infrastructure and community services in the culture sector.

A cinema opened in Sansha in July, screening at least one movie a day. In addition, the cinema has mobile projection units which are used to screen films on other islands.
