海洋经济(hǎiyáng jīngjì): Maritime economy

The State Oceanic Administration released the 2017 China Maritime Economy Statistical Bulletin in Beijing on March 1. According to the administration, China's maritime GDP was 7.76 trillion yuan ($1.2 trillion) in 2017, a year-on-year rise of 6.9 percent, and it accounted for 9.4 percent of the country's overall GDP.
In 2017 the primary, secondary and tertiary industries accounted for 4.6 percent, 38.8 percent and 56.6 percent of the overall maritime GDP. And about 36.57 million people worked in industries related to the maritime economy nationwide in 2017.
The coastal tourism industry increased 16.5 percent year-on-year, and it accounted for about half of the overall maritime GDP in 2017. The output of the maritime biological medicine industry and maritime transportation industry saw a year-on-year jump of 11.1 percent and 9.5 percent respectively.
Local authorities have been paying ever-increasing attention to the development of the maritime economy. With the further promotion of the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road, it is expected China's maritime economy will step into a high quality development stage in 2018.
