Here are books recommended by Sifei members for readers who want to understand ancient architecture in China:

History of Ancient Chinese Architecture (Chinese), a panoramic review of Chinese architecture with rich references by Liu Dunzhen.

Explanation of Yingzao Fashi (Chinese) by Chen Mingda to explain 1,103 entries appearing in Yingzao Fashi, the most important Chinese architectural work of the 12th century.

A Story of Ruins (English), an easy read explaining the aesthetic and historical significance of architectural ruins in China by Chinese-American scholar Wu Hung.

Chinese Architecture (English), which reviews the country's architectural development in general, by six top architecture scholars from both China and abroad.

Liang and Lin: Partners in Exploring China's Architectural Past (English), is written by American Sinologist Wilma Fairbank to record the visits and studies of the country's ancient architecture during the wartime by Chinese architects Liang Sicheng and Lin Huiyin.
