Pursuing better-quality new urbanization was one of the tasks set out in this year's Government Work Report, which pointed out the main goals and tasks of the next stage of urbanization.
The report said that 13 million people will be registered as permanent urban residents this year, and the work of granting permanent urban residency to people from rural areas living in cities will be speeded up.
The report also stressed that meeting the needs of the people is what new urbanization is all about. The authorities will provide services that put people first, with the aim of ensuring that every person has equal opportunities for development and people's lives are more convenient and comfortable.
The new urbanization aims to achieve integrative, harmonious and eco-friendly development of urban and rural areas, with the emphasis on infrastructure integration and public service equalization, in order to promote social development and achieve common prosperity.
At present, the pace at which the rural population is achieving the transformation from traditional farmer to modern citizen lags behind the pace of urbanization, which means more attention must be paid to helping rural people living in urban areas successfully make this transition.
