Beijing’s employment office predicts that 15 percent of the jobs created in the capital in the first half of this year will not be filled by the end of June.
Some 51,000 jobs are expected to be created in the first six months of this year, mostly in high-end industries, the Beijing Employment Service Center said on Wednesday.
However, it estimates 8,000 will remain vacant by June 30, mostly in the service industries.
“Sectors including IT services, modern manufacturing and finance have an increasing demand for talent, accounting for more than 90 percent of the total demand,” center director Song Ye said.
“This is in line with the upgrading of Beijing’s industrial structure. As the city grows, it must introduce more professionals in high-end industries such as information services, scientific research and business services to develop.”
There will be 4.1 percent fewer job vacancies in downtown Beijing in the first half of the year than in the same period last year, according to the center’s data, but 7.8 percent more vacancies at companies in the Beijing Economic-Technological Development Area and at the city’s three science parks, in Zhongguancun, Huairou and Changping.
