A video showing a wedding ceremony of two children less than 3 years of age has become popular online recently, moving lots of viewers because these unlucky toddlers have leukemia.
The special wedding ceremony was held Monday in Beijing and, except for their parents, the participants were volunteers who expected the children could become healthy and receive help from others.
The two children, both from Henan province, were diagnosed in 2017 with acute myelogenous leukemia, a type of fatal leukemia that is hard to cure. And they are now receiving medical treatment in the same room at the Aerospace Center Hospital in Beijing.
The children have undergone several rounds of chemotherapy, which failed to ease their symptoms. They are waiting for bone marrow transplants. The wedding, without a ring exchange or banquet, symbolizes the parents' wishes.
The organizer of the one-hour wedding ceremony, Han Yuqi, a volunteer who focuses on helping children with serious diseases, said that volunteers offered the venue, decorations and dresses to fulfill their dream.
"By holding this wedding, we want our kids to know that their parents have never given up hope," says Wu Laixin, the little groom's father. "We hope that the children can hold their real wedding ceremony one day."
