Border police in southwestern China have shot and killed a bus passenger who stabbed two people after refusing to submit to a roadside inspection.
The man attempted to avoid a security check after police stopped the bus he had been traveling on for a routine check in Malipo county, which lies on Yunnan province’s border with Vietnam, authorities said.
He used a knife to stab a police officer, got off the bus and made a failed attempt to hijack a passing truck, stabbing its driver in the process, according to an official statement.
Armed police fatally shot the man when he tried to launch a second attack on border personnel. Officers had earlier fired warning shots, authorities said.
The incident happened around 2 pm on Tuesday. The officer and driver were sent to the hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.
The official statement provided no further details on the suspect.
