Xinhua | Updated: 2018-05-01 18:58

BEIJING - China has 2,547 local law societies at the county level, covering more than 90 percent of the country's county-level areas, according to the China Law Society (CLS).

The CLS said in a statement that a system consisting of law societies at the provincial, city and county levels has been established in China.

The main functions of law societies in China include providing legal services for people at the grassroots, solving disputes as a third party, and promoting awareness of legal knowledge and rule of law.

As of the end of last year, there had been more than 1,000 law study seminars set up under local law societies across the country. These seminars have over 638,700 individual members and 18,000 group members.

CLS President Wang Lequan has called on law societies nationwide to better integrate their services with social governance.
