One survivor of Cuban plane crash dies

HAVANA - One of the survivors of the tragic plane crash in Cuba died Monday afternoon due to complications, taking the death toll in the incident to 111.

Grettel Landrove, a 23-year-old college student, passed away following serious neurological traumas, said the Cuban public health ministry.

Along with the two other survivors of the incident, Landrove was hospitalized at the intensive care unit of Havana's Calixto Garcia Hospital.

"At the moment of her death, Grettel Landrove was in extreme critical condition, which wasn't possible to revert despite the effort of the multidisciplinary medical team in charge of her," said the ministry.

Earlier in the day, Carlos Alberto Martinez, head of the medical team, said Landrove's prognosis was unfavorable because she had to be operated for an injury inside the brain tissue and an incision was applied to decompress the area and improve circulation.
