OTTAWA - The Chinese embassy in Canada on Thursday confirmed the second death of a Chinese tourist from a traffic accident in Ontario days earlier.
The accident occurred Monday when a bus carrying 35 Chinese tourists from the United States crashed on the 401 highway in eastern Ontario. All 37 on board, including an American driver and tour guide, were injured and hospitalized.
The first death was confirmed by Canadian police early Tuesday. Without disclosing further details of the dead, the Chinese embassy said one Chinese victim remains in critical condition, while the conditions of the three other seriously injured improved. The other injured have mostly been discharged from several hospitals.
Family members of some Chinese victims have arrived in Canada. The cause of the accident is still under investigation.
The bus involved in the accident belongs to the US-registered travel company LLTOURTU. The Chinese tourists departed from Shanghai on May 19 for a trip to the United States and Canada through Saturday.
