NANNING -- Customs in Nanning city in South China's Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region said Wednesday that it had seized 35 pieces of ivory products, weighing a total of 1.55 kilograms.

On June 9, Nanning customs caught one Vietnamese passenger smuggling 35 pieces of ivory at Dongxing port at the China-Vietnam border. The suspect is in police custody.

Nanning customs has confiscated 143 ivory items weighing a total of more than 5 kilograms since the beginning of the year.

China banned all domestic ivory trade at the end of 2017 as part of its commitment to protecting wild animals.
