About 100 students applied to enroll in the Sichuan cuisine course, but Yu said only 15 were selected as the kitchen used for the classes has only eight electric stovetops, while the school also wanted to make sure the students left with actual skills.

Despite the shortage of stoves, the class has 10 instructors, including a national-level cooking master from a vocational school in Chengdu and experienced cooks from the university.
