Crowd beats man who abducted child

A video showing a man being beaten by a crowd on a street has been winning fans on social media since Thursday.

The man, shown being beaten by multiple people in the one-minute video, abducted a 3-year-old girl outside a supermarket in Suixi county, in East China's Anhui province, at about 11:35 am on Wednesday, the local police said in a statement.

The police and local people searched for the man for more than three hours before finally catching him more than 2 kilometers from the supermarket. The girl was unharmed and was returned to her parents.

The man, 44 and surnamed Zhao, was from neighboring Henan province, police said. He has been arrested for abducting the child.

There was a false rumor circulating that the man was the girl's grandfather and the police said they were looking for those responsible for spreading it.
