5.4-magnitude earthquake strikes off Japan's Fukushima

TOKYO - An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 5.4 struck off the coast of Japan's Fukushima prefecture at 5:42 pm local time, Japan Meteorological Agency said Tuesday.

The temblor was centered in the waters off the coast of Fukushima prefecture, with the epicenter at a latitude of 37.2 degrees north and a longitude of 141.3 degrees east and at a depth of 20 km.

The earthquake logged 4 on the Japanese seismic intensity scale which peaks at 7 in some areas of Miyagi prefecture and Fukushima prefecture in eastern Japan.

So far no major damage or injuries were reported, and no tsunami warning has been issued.
