Shanghai braces for Typhoon Yagi

SHANGHAI - Authorities in Shanghai have taken precautions against Typhoon Yagi, the 14th this year, which has been forecast to bring gales and rainstorms over the weekend.
According to the municipal meteorological bureau, the typhoon was moving at a speed of 15 to 20 km per hour with maximum wind speeds of up to 70 km per hour near its center Friday afternoon. It is expected to land in east China on Sunday afternoon or Monday morning before moving north.
Gusts of up to 60 km per hour, as well as rainstorms of 30 to 50 millimeters per hour, are forecast to hit the city from Sunday to Monday.
The city's disaster prevention headquarters has ordered thorough inspection of flood control facilities. Ports, scenic areas, and construction sites have also been advised to take precautionary measures.
