In the UK children give small gifts that they have bought or made to their teacher at the end of the school year. Cash gifts and expensive items are not acceptable. Thus no gift can be considered as a bribe. Move Teachers’ Day to the last day of the school year, and it will become a thank-you from students for their teachers work and support... and not an inducement to give extra attention to a child. In order to stop corruption in China, many schools now forbid the acceptance of gifts from parents.
