GUANGZHOU -- Police in southern China's Guangdong Province seized 8.5 tonnes of drugs in the first eight months of the year.
The provincial narcotics control commission said local police cracked over 9,000 drug cases and uncovered over 66,000 drug users in the January-August period.
Over 30,000 drug users were placed in compulsory rehabilitation centers, it said.
All students at schools in Guangdong will receive education to increase anti-drug awareness by the end of the year, the commission said.
Local authorities also helped those who overcame drug addiction find jobs and offered allowances to poor families who have members in rehab programs.
