Chinese shares see sharp drop on Monday

Chinese stocks plummeted on Monday, the first trading day after week-long National Day holiday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 3.72 percent, closing at 2,716.51 points.

The Shenzhen Component Index fell 4.05 percent, dropping to 8,060.83 points.

The tech-heavy ChiNext Index, China's NASDAQ-style board of growth enterprises, slumped 4.09 percent on Monday, falling to 1,353.67 points.
