HANGZHOU -- A suspect has been returned to China from Ghana as part of a campaign against economic fugitives, police in east China's Zhejiang Province announced Thursday.

With the help of the Chinese embassy in Ghana, the suspect surnamed Guo was brought back to China during the Fox Hunt campaign, which targets people suspected of economic crimes who have fled overseas.

According to Zhejiang police, Guo forged purchases and sales contracts and filed a tax return to the administration of taxation in the city of Quzhou, and illegally obtained a tax refund of more than 6 million yuan ($862,000) from May 2014 to July 2015.

Guo fled to Ghana in Feb. 2016, police said.

The people's procuratorate of Qujiang district in the city of Quzhou approved Guo's arrest in April 2018. The International Police Organisation (Interpol) issued a red notice for Guo in June.

Guo was sent back to China on Tuesday after being arrested by Ghanaian police.
