New York Police Department (NYPD) has deployed heavily-armored guards at synagogues in New York after the shooting in Pittsburgh left multiple people dead or wounded Saturday morning.

"We continue to closely monitor the active shooter incident in Pittsburgh. Currently, there is no nexus to New York City," NYPD tweeted.

The deployment of counterterrorism teams serves as a precautionary measure, according to NYPD.

New York State Governor Andrew Cuomo released a statement on the synagogue shooting in Pittsburgh Saturday, and directed State police to increase security presence around Jewish centers and houses of worship across the state.

Cuomo also expressed grievance and prays for those killed or injured in the shooting, and called for unity against corrosive and destructive forces of hate.

Los Angeles police on the western coast also increased patrols and took precautionary deployment around synagogues and other places of worship.
