China supports competitive companies and financial institutions to conduct infrastructure cooperation with the Dominican Republic under market rules and business principles, Premier Li Keqiang said on Friday.
Li made the statement when meeting with President of the Dominican Republic Danilo Medina, who came to Beijing for a state visit and will attend the China International Import Expo (CIIE) in Shanghai next week.
Li said the two countries established diplomatic ties in May, which is in line with the fundamental interests of both sides, and opened a new chapter for bilateral ties. Adherence to the one-China principle is the political foundation for the establishment of diplomatic ties, and China is willing to work with the Dominican Republic to promote consistent, stable and growing development of relations, he said.
The premier said there is great potential for pragmatic cooperation as the two economies are highly complementary. China is willing to import high-quality goods from the republic and expand trade exchanges. Tourism should be boosted to increase people-to-people exchanges, he said.
Medina said both countries have made remarkable accomplishments in diverse cooperation and brought real benefits to their people. The Dominican Republic welcomes Chinese companies' investment and hopes to expand exports to China as well as strengthen cooperation in hydropower, he said.
