Revenue of China's culture sector, related businesses goes up 9.3 pct in Jan-Sept period

BEIJING -- China's culture sector and related businesses maintained rapid growth in the first nine months of this year, according to the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).

The total revenue of the culture sector and related businesses reached 6.36 trillion yuan (about $917 billion), rising 9.3 percent year on year, said the NBS based on a survey over 60,000 enterprises of scale in China.

Seven of the nine culture-related sectors saw their business revenues rise in the period, with two of them registering a double-digit increase, the NBS said.

Revenue of news and information services and of creative design services amounted to 592.7 billion yuan and 756.5 billion yuan in January-September, respectively, surging 26.7 percent and 18.7 percent.

Eastern China contributed the most to the sectors' revenue, which amounted to 4.93 trillion yuan in the first nine months, accounting for 77.6 percent of the total revenue.

Culture sectors in western China saw the fastest growth compared with other parts of China, climbing 12.8 percent year on year, data from the NBS showed.
