S.Korean president names new finance minister, top economic adviser

SEOUL - South Korean President Moon Jae-in on Friday named a new finance minister and his top economic adviser, according to the presidential Blue House.

Hong Nam-ki, chief of the Office for Government Policy Coordination under the Prime Minister's Office, was named to replace Finance Minister Kim Dong-yeon who doubles as deputy prime minister for economic affairs.

The 58-year-old economic bureaucrat is subject to parliamentary confirmation hearing.

Kim Soo-hyun, senior presidential secretary for social affairs, was appointed as presidential chief of staff for policy to succeed Jang Ha-sung who is seen as an architect of Moon's income-driven growth policy.

The new chief economic adviser for President Moon is not subject to parliamentary hearing.

The president named Noh Hyeong-ouk, deputy chief of the Office for Government Policy Coordination, as the new head of the office.

Kim Yeon-myung, social welfare professor at Chung-Ang University in Seoul, was nominated to be the new senior presidential secretary for social affairs.
