The number of overseas families adopting Chinese children has declined in recent years, according to data released by the Ministry of Civil Affairs on Wednesday.
Of the 17,510 children adopted in China last year, 12.4 percent — or 2,174 — went to parents based abroad, the official figures show.
The ministry said earlier that the number of overseas applicants looking to adopt a Chinese child has dropped over the past seven years, from 3,845 in 2011 to 2,228 in 2017.
