Beijing has established a committee to evaluate the morality of online games.
In 2017 there were up to 583 million online game accounts in China, about 200 million of which belong to minors. It is therefore of great significance to strictly review online games so they do not corrupt the minds of youngsters.
The online game moral committee can help ensure the online game enterprises fully shoulder their social responsibilities and their products do not cross any moral lines. These enterprises are required to give top priority to the social effects of their products and safeguard the physical and psychological health of youngsters, and actively promote the proper development of the online game industry according to the law and morality.
The online game moral committee consists of experts and scholars from relevant administrative authorities, colleges, research institutions, media and industrial associations that are familiar with online games and adolescent issues. Their moral reviews of online games will be taken into account by the online game regulators when deciding whether to grant approval or not.
The committee has reviewed the first batch of 20 online games that may have moral risks. Eleven out of the 20 games are required to be rectified and the remaining nine games have not been approved.
