The former general manager of China’s State-owned Sinochem Group Cai Xiyou was sentenced to 12 years in prison for taking bribes by a court in Shandong province on Wednesday.
He was also fined 3 million yuan ($435,800) by the Tai'an Intermediate People's Court for accepting bribes of 53.67 million yuan from 1997 to 2016 while serving as deputy general manager at West Pacific Petrochemical Co Ltd Dalian, and then various senior executive positions at Sinopec Corp and its affiliated companies, according to the verdict.
All illegal gains shall be confiscated and turned over to the national treasury, it said.
Cai was given a lenient sentence, since he turned himself in and assisted in other major cases, the court said. Cai said he would not appeal.
