A surgeon shot to fame and was nicknamed "Doctor Fruit" by netizens after videos of him operating on fruits went viral on the internet, The Beijing News reported.

In the videos, colorful fruits are treated as patients and a pair of hands wearing white medical gloves performs surgeries, such as removing appendix from a mango and doing cardiac suture surgery on an apple, on them.

The surgeon, Wang Yexiao, works at a hospital in Hegang, Northeast China's Heilongjiang province.

In order to raise his 2-year-old son's interest in medical science, Wang started filming in October. He bought scalpels, forceps and suture and recorded his operations while his son was sleeping. His son loved the videos as well as his surgical instruments.

He uploaded the videos on the internet and attracted many netizens' interest. The video of taking out seeds from a grape and suturing its skin recorded more than two million views.

He said he will continue making the videos and want to close the distance between doctors and patients by doing this.
