URUMQI - Northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region transferred 50.3 billion kWh of electricity to eastern provinces last year, a year-on-year surge of 14 percent, said State Grid's Xinjiang office Friday.

New energy accounted for over 37 percent of the total outbound power transmission volume in Xinjiang.

Xinjiang's electricity transfer project increases the added value of coal resources and contributes to emission reduction, said Qiu Gang, chief of the State Grid's Xinjiang office. "It also reduces the pressure of railway and road transportation."

The electricity transfer project in Xinjiang is a vital part of the country's west-east energy transfer project. Xinjiang has built a number of extra-high voltage power transmission projects since 2010, with an annual outbound power transmission capacity of 13 million kWh.
