Service centers will be set up in cities for infants and children, according to a plan released on Tuesday.

Existing resources will be fully used for community centers, and unoccupied school dormitories will be turned into such centers to offer day care for children, according to a plan issued by 18 departments of the central government, including the National Development and Reform Commission, Ministry of Education and Ministry of Civil Affairs.

Social funds are encouraged to invest in such centers and the government will establish standards for the centers to ensure quality of the services, the plan read.

It added services for taking care of children in rural areas of China will be improved.
