Alderman Peter Estlin, the Lord Mayor of the City of London and the co-chairman of the "UK-China Charity Initiative" said in his keynote speech that the theme of ‘Shaping Tomorrow’s City Today’ included two missions, namely promoting innovation & technology and addressing social inclusion.
In terms of the first mission, he was delighted to see that the Fintech companies in the delegation had forged promising relationships with Chinese companies.
Moving on to the second mission, the Lord Mayor said that by partnering with the CCCUK, the Lord Mayor’s Appeal was able to work on poverty alleviation in China, in particular, raising funds for a rural school in Shaanxi province.
The Lord Mayor praised the initiative, saying that ‘The UK-China Initiative is a prime example of the mutual benefit that comes from a strong partnership between our two countries.’
He also stated that he ‘looks forward to what more the CCCUK and the Lord Mayors Appeal can do together’ as they ‘build in trade and beyond trade in our long future together’.
