Many domestic universities have released their requirements for pre-exam admission offers this year showing that they have tightened their own admission requirements in line with the Ministry of Education's requirement.
As well as the criteria being raised, the colleges have also reduced their quotas for students admitted independently.
Compared with last year, many colleges have reduced 30 to 40 percent of their independent recruitment quota this year.
As a result, the independent admission requirements of colleges are the strictest ever.
At the beginning of this year, the Ministry of Education released a document aimed at improving the college independent admissions system, which requires that those seeking independent admission should mainly be studying basic science subjects and innovation research areas.
Therefore, several universities including Tsinghua University and Shandong University have canceled their independent admissions for literature and history majors.
Considering the frequently exposed academic misconduct scandals involving fraudulent papers recently, several universities, including the Beijing-based Renmin University of China and Beijing Normal University, have also stipulated that applicants' papers and patents will not be accepted as application materials.
In addition, universities such as Peking University and Wuhan University have made a physical examination part of their independent admissions procedures.
