China's national geographic names information database was officially launched at the second national geographical name census meeting in Beijing on May 7.
This is the first time China has released national information on geographic names, the first time China has released provincial, city-level and county-level boundary and boundary marker information and the first time China has released the special words, special pronunciations and original pronunciations of geographical names.
Geographical names are an important part of Chinese civilization and important carriers of its history.
The country launched its second national geographic name census in 2014 and it was completed in 2018. The census collected more than 13.2 million geographic names and established databases of geographic names at various levels.
The national geographic name information base built by the Ministry of Civil Affairs provides the results of the national geographic names census information for the whole of society. The national geographic names information database aims to encourage social communication, promote Chinese traditional culture and serve harmonious social and economic development.
