KUNMING - Police in Southwest China's Yunnan province have detained 411 drug suspects and seized nearly 1.2 tonnes of drugs in an 20-day anti-drug operation launched on May 9.
Local police have busted 419 drug trafficking cases and one drug manufacturing case, seizing 30 tonnes of drug-making materials, the provincial public security bureau announced Friday.
More than 600 police officers from 14 prefectures and cities participated in the operation focusing on major traffic arteries in Yunnan.
According to local authorities, the operation is to crack down on inbound trafficking of drugs from the bordering Golden Triangle region and prevent smuggling of drug-making materials out of China.
Yunnan is a major front in China's battle against drug crime, as it borders the Golden Triangle that is known for rampant drug production and trafficking.
