As the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympic Games is approaching, four ministries and departments including the Ministry of Education have recently issued a guidance document to popularize ice and snow sports among students.

The move is aimed at cultivating students' interest and improving their skills in ice and snow sports by incorporating these sports in physical education nationwide. The Northeast, North and Northwest regions should highly promote ice and snow sports education on campus, while other regions are encouraged to promote ice and snow sports at school according to their actual conditions.

According to the document, there should be 2,000 specialized ice and snow sports training schools nationwide by 2020, and the figure should reach 5,000 by 2025. One hundred ice and snow sports pilot counties/districts and 20 ice and snow sports pilot zones will be built, and colleges and universities are encouraged to establish high quality ice and snow sports teams.

To achieve that goal, the government will build a standard system for the construction of campus ice and snow sports education.
