SHANGHAI - Shanghai police busted a drug gang for selling a new drug called "Rhino Liquid" (5-MeO-DiPT) Monday, the first of its kind in China.
Over 200 kg of "Rhino Liquid" and 45 kg of the second generation of the new drug were seized, along with over 1,000 kg of materials and chemicals, police said.
In April last year, Shanghai police received a tip-off of the online selling of "Rhino Liquid," a novel psychedelic substance of the tryptamine class that produces psychedelic effects when used.
Suspects of the gang were detained in Shanghai last September and the suspect surnamed Qi in charge of the online shop selling the drugs was arrested in Northeast China's Liaoning province on Sept 12.
Police also seized 34 boxes of "Rhino Liquid" weighing over 30 kg that Qi mailed via express parcels to six Chinese cities in September last year.
Further investigation indicated that the drug lab was in the city of Baoding, North China's Hebei province and six other suspects of the gang including the suspect who made the drugs were detained in late September.
China seized 67.9 tonnes of drugs in 109,600 drug-related cases last year, arresting a total of 137,400 suspects, according to a report issued by the China National Narcotics Control Commission.
