Tony Award-winning Broadway musical "An American in Paris" hit the stage in Beijing Tuesday and started its China tour.

"An American in Paris" was originally a jazz-influenced orchestral piece written by American composer George Gershwin and was adapted into a blockbuster film in 1951 and a musical play later.

The musical on its China tour is a 2015 Tony Award-winning version directed by Christopher Wheeldon.

Telling the romantic encounter of American expatriate painter Jerry and ballet dancer Lise in Paris after World War II, the musical play extends beyond the storyline, indicating that the European youths had beaten the shadow of war, compared with the film of the same name.

The musical runs from July 2 to 7 at the Beijing Poly Theater.
