The National Meteorological Center has been issuing yellow alerts for high temperatures as North China has been hit by a heat wave.

On Tuesday, temperatures in Linzhou and Anyang in Central China's Henan province exceeded 40 C.

Temperatures are expected to reach 38-40 C and even surpass 40 C on Thursday in the southwestern part of Liaoning, southern Beijing, Tianjin, south-central Hebei, northern Henan, west-central Shandong, southwestern Shaanxi, western Inner Mongolia, western Gansu and the south Xinjiang basin.

The National Meteorological Center estimates that high temperatures in south-central North China, the Huanghe-Huaihe area and south Xinjiang basin will last till Friday.

The high-temperature subsidy, which is issued from June to September, has increased in some cities.

Tianjin's high-temperature subsidy is 32 yuan (about $4.7) per day this year, compared with 31 yuan last year.

Shanghai's high-temperature subsidy has risen to 300 yuan per month this year, from last year's 200 yuan.

Fujian's high-temperature subsidy went up to 260 yuan per month this year.

Workers exposed to outdoor temperatures above 35 C as well as those who work indoors in temperatures higher than 33 C are entitled to a high-temperature subsidy.
