A middle school teacher in Nanjing, East China's Jiangsu province, has driven a total of 2,000 kilometers to visit homes of all his students in the past four years.
Ge Sheng has worked at Kelihua Middle School since 2015. Through home visiting, the 27-year-old said he has learned more about his students and become friends with many parents.
"We have social media and many modern ways to communicate with students and their families now, but I want to learn more about their living environments and how the family members interact with each other," he said.
Not every parent welcomes his visits. A student's mother once shut the door in his face, but he insisted on communicating with the mother and the visit went ahead successfully later on.
Every time Ge visits a home, he presents a book to the student and encourages them to read more.
"I enjoy being friends with my students and their families," he said. "I'm honored that many of my students trust me enough to share their secrets with me. That's what makes a teacher proud."
