6 killed, 96 injured as car bomb hits central Afghanistan

GHAZNI, Afghanistan - At least six persons were killed and 96 others sustained injuries as a car bomb rocked Ghazni city, the capital of Afghanistan's Ghazni province on Sunday, provincial government spokesman Aref Nuri said.

The blast occurred at 8:30 am local time next to a security branch of police in Ghazni city, the official said, adding that those killed included two security personnel and four civilians.

According to the official, 87 civilians and nine security personnel were injured in the bloody blast, some in critical condition.

Nuri, who earlier put the number of killed at 12, told Xinhua that the first information was based on mistaken calculation.

Meantime, head of health department in Ghazni city, Baz Mohammad Humat told Xinhua that 75 injured people with majority of them civilians including 30 students and five women had been taken to hospital for medical treatment.

Taliban militants have claimed the responsibility, saying the armed outfit targeted security base killing and injuring scores of security personnel.
