Beijing on Tuesday refuted groundless rumors claiming China will dispatch warships to the Malacca Strait to escort its vessels.

The Ministry of Transport last week issued a notice that raised the security level for Chinese ships passing through the Malacca Strait to its highest degree, Level 3.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Geng Shuang told a daily news conference that the security notice is in accordance with relevant international conventions and domestic regulations, and it aims to deal with possible risks and ensure the navigation security of relevant ships.
