Then the strong-minded woman sold her apartment and refused her children's invitation to live with them.

After walking around nearly the whole city, she chose the nursing home now she lives in.

"At first, my children showed their strong disagreement to my decision because of concern about my old age, but they found they couldn't change my mind," she said. "The nursing home provides me with a good environment, delicious food, nice neighbors and good health care, letting me live freely and happily."

With more free time than youth, Wei began to make travel plans after moving to the nursing home.

"At that time, I had almost traveled around China, so I began to plan my journey abroad," she said. "Some famous European literary works, such as Victor Hugo's novel The Hunchback of Notre Dame, made me yearn for those European countries with a long history."
