It's not just a good time for couples to celebrate the coming Chinese Valentine's Day, which falls on the seventh day of the seventh lunar month, Aug 7 this year – it's also a time for singletons to go on their travels.
Single-person flight ticket orders have soared by 40 percent compared with the same period last year, according to statistics from domestic online travel agency Ctrip.
The statistics also showed that flight orders for Chinese Valentine's Day have exceeded those for Western Valentine's Day.
People born in the 1990s have gradually become the main force in the tourism market, accounting for 35 percent of total customers, followed by 40-year-olds who accounted for 29 percent, according to the statistics.
Romantic destinations with cool weather are the most popular summer travel spots, with the statistics showing Lijiang, Dali and Kunming, three cities from the plateau province Yunnan, among the top ten.
