Qixi Festival is a traditional Chinese celebration. One of the most romantic festivals in China, Qixi commemorates the legend of a mythological couple — Niulang the Cowherd and Zhinyu the Weaver Girl, who could only meet one day each year.
As a festival symbolizing love, it is considered the most romantic holiday in China. In modern times, it has been dubbed "Chinese Valentine's Day".
An ancient Chinese poem called "An Autumn Night", written by Tang Dynasty (618-907) poet Du Mu, depicts the loneliness of a palace maid on the night of the festival, which falls on the seventh day of the seventh month in the Chinese lunar calendar. This year's Qixi Festival is on Aug 7.
