HK-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge shortlisted for 2019 Structural Awards

Several Chinese structures including the Hong Kong-Zhuhai- Macao Bridge (HZMB) have been shortlisted for the 2019 Structural Awards, which recognizes outstanding projects from around the world, news website Cankaoxiaoxi.com reported on Wednesday.

The awards revealed by the Institute of Structural Engineer (IStructE) were divided into 12 categories to show the diversity of global engineering excellence, among which HZMB was shortlisted in the award for construction innovation.

The 55-kilometer-long bridge is the world's longest sea crossing and a mega project led by the Chinese central government as a key step for the development of the Pearl River Delta region. It opened to traffic in September 2018.

The CITIC Tower was also shortlisted under the category of tall or slender structures, which face a challenging process of design and construction.

The award for long span structures included three structures from China - Changsha International Convention and Exhibition Center, Hangzhou Olympic Tennis Centre and Qingdao World Expo City.

The Gate of Chongqing Longhu Park in southwestern China also is shortlisted in an award for structural artistry.
