A man and his son were sentenced by the local court for three years and six months for making counterfeit money in Jining, Shandong province, Procuratorate Daily reported on Thursday.
The father Li Chun, 54, and his son Li Yi were caught in their house by the policemen of Rencheng branch of Jining public security bureau in January.
The police also seized 715 fake 20 yuan ($2.8) bills in their home, as well as tools for making counterfeit currency.
Li Chun used to buy counterfeit banknotes online. After failing to get in touch with the sellers, he got the idea of making counterfeit banknotes on his own and told his son his plans.
His son then bought tools, learned how to make counterfeit banknotes online and taught Li Chun the whole process.
Li Yi was once under administrative detention for 12 days in 2017 for buying and using counterfeit money.
"The cost of each 20-yuan counterfeit bill is around two yuan," Li Chun said, adding they spent the counterfeit money to buy small goods and never sold them to others.
