Should the minimum age for marriage be lowered?

chinadaily.com.cn | Updated: 2019-08-10 10:00

Editor's note: Wang Liping, a professor at the law school of Shandong University, wrote in an article in Guangming Daily that the minimum legal ages for marriage should be reduced to 20 for men and 18 for women. The current legal marriage age in China is 22 for men and 20 for women. According to Wang, China has the highest legal marriageable age in comparison to that of other countries. With the population rapidly aging, is it time to lower the minimum age for marriage? Forum readers share their opinions.

Yes it should, it's 16 in the UK, so quite right, 22/20 is a bit too old. Some people like myself and Mrs Austin wanted to tie the knot earlier. I was 19 and Mrs. Austin was 18.
